01 / BEFORE YOU START
Separate what is coming with you.
Decide what you are moving, what you will donate or dispose of, and what needs to stay with you. Keep keys, medication, important documents, chargers and valuables out of the main pack. Put essentials in a clearly marked bag so they are easy to find on moving day.
If some furniture needs taking apart, empty it first. Record the model and condition, find the instructions where possible, and arrange disassembly before transport. Rebuilding at the destination is a separate task.
02 / CHOOSE YOUR MATERIALS
Match the box to the contents.
Use smaller boxes for heavy belongings such as books. Larger boxes suit lighter contents such as bedding. Check that reused boxes are dry, undamaged and suitable for the weight. Secure the bases properly and avoid filling a box so heavily that it is awkward to handle.
Have tape, labels and suitable protective wrapping ready. Our packing shop shows individual prices and quantities, so you can remove materials you already have, add extras or compare the basket with another supplier. Buying materials and booking packing labour are separate decisions.

Start with the things you use least.
Pack spare bedding, seasonal belongings and less-used books before everyday kitchenware and clothes. Work through one manageable cupboard or area at a time. Leave enough space to move safely around the boxes and keep access to doors clear.
If you are booking packing help, tell us what you will pack yourself. Choose full packing or fragile-only packing, and give your preferred packing date as well as the moving date. We agree the visit after reviewing your request.
04 / FRAGILE BELONGINGS
Protect each item, then fill the gaps.
Use suitable wrapping for crockery, glassware and ornaments rather than relying on the box alone. Keep wrapped items from moving freely inside the box, and clearly identify fragile contents. Tell us about unusually delicate, specialist or particularly valuable belongings before arranging the work.
Keep liquids securely closed and separated from items that could be damaged by a spill. Check your transport provider’s guidance about anything they cannot carry.
05 / LABEL FOR THE NEW HOME
Write the room and what is inside.
“Kitchen — mugs and glasses” is more useful than “miscellaneous”. Mark boxes on the top and a visible side. Add a priority note for things you need first, and identify belongings that should not be unpacked immediately.
For dismantled furniture, keep the fittings together in a labelled bag and identify the piece they belong to. Keep any instructions with the furniture components.
06 / MAKE THE FIRST NIGHT EASIER
Plan the unpacking before you arrive.
Choose which rooms you want usable first: the kitchen, bedrooms or another priority. Have a plan for the cupboards and shelves so belongings can be placed where you want them. If storage furniture needs building, arrange that before those boxes are put away.
You can request house move unpacking without counting every box. Use the new home type and bedroom count to choose a package, then review the suggested box quantity. If you already know the count, use that option instead.
